If you’re looking to trade commercial cleaners for more natural options, we’ve got you covered! From the kitchen to the bathroom, and every surface in between, here are recipes for your own homemade cleaning solutions:

DIY All Purpose Cleaner

  • One part vinegar
  • One part water
  • Rosemary sprigs (optional)
  • 10-15 drops of essential oil of your choice (lavender or citrus oils work well)

Simply combine the ingredients in a spray bottle, shake, and use for everyday cleaning! Since vinegar is acidic, avoid using this cleaner on stone surfaces like marble or granite, as it will damage the stone and the coating.

DIY All Purpose Cleaner Without Vinegar

Even with essential oils to mask the smell, vinegar has a potent scent. Here’s an all purpose cleaner recipe without vinegar.

  • 1 cup filtered or distilled water
  • 1 tablespoon of liquid castile soap

Combine ingredients in a spray bottle, shake, and use.

DIY Glass Cleaner

  • 1 cup distilled water
  • ¼ cup isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar

Add the alcohol and vinegar to a spray bottle, then add water. Shake well and use with a microfiber cloth to clean windows, sliding glass doors, and mirrors.

Homemade Bathroom Cleaner

Commercial bathroom cleaners seem to have especially strong smells. If you’re tired of the chemical smell that usually comes with cleaning your bathroom, try this DIY bathroom cleaner.

  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 1.5 tablespoons liquid dish soap

Combine the ingredients in a spray bottle or scrubber wand, shaking to mix thoroughly. Spray on your tub and shower walls/doors, let sit for a few minutes, then scrub the grime away!

Homemade Granite, Marble, and Stone Cleaner

If you have natural stone countertops, you know that you can’t use just anything to clean them. Most all-purpose cleaners are too harsh, and as great as vinegar is for cleaning, it’s too acidic for natural stone. Here’s a simple DIY granite cleaner that you can also use on marble or other types of stone:

  • ½ cup of rubbing alcohol
  • ½ teaspoon of liquid dish soap or liquid castile soap
  • 20 drops of essential oil of your choice for scent (optional, avoid lemon as it is too acidic)

Pour the ingredients in a spray bottle, shake to combine, and use on your granite, marble, or stone countertops.

Marble Stain Remover

Marble is beautiful, but it’s also susceptible to stains. Try this simple DIY stain remover to make your marble look like new.

  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon water

Mix in a small bowl until the consistency is a thick paste. You may need to add more baking soda or water to get there.

Wipe your stained spot with water, then spoon the paste onto the spot (it’s a good idea to test in an inconspicuous spot beforehand!) Make sure the entire stain is covered and let it sit overnight. In the morning, the paste should be dry. Scrape it off with a dish scraper or pie scraper and wipe with soap and water. Your stain should be gone!
